ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC fell 3-1 to New York Red Bull in its first 2026 preseason match.

CITY’s Celio Pompeu scored the final goal of the match in the 68th minute after NYRB scored three times in the first half.

“I thought it was good,” said Head Coach Yoann Damet following the match. “Good opposition this morning against a team that played more than us to that point of pre-season. It’s always interesting to put the guys in those environments where competition is on. You’re not competing against each other anymore; it’s an opponent with a plan. How can we see our identity come out in those moments? I am quite pleased with what I saw this morning. Saw a lot of good things. And that should help us in the next phase of preseason.”

It was the first of two matches the club will play in Florida. The second will be against Tampa Bay Rowdies on January 28.
