ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC opened its 2026 season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC.

Match Recap
It was the second time CITY has faced Charlotte for its home opener. The first time was in St. Louis’ inaugural season in 2023. CITY won that match 3-1, starting their first and best season to date off strong.
Going into Saturday’s match, CITY was down four players, with Fallou Fall, Tomas Ostrak, and Tyson Pearce all being out with lower-body injuries. Eduard Löwen was also unavailable Saturday for non-injury-related reasons.

The first half saw starts by newcomers Dante Polvara, Rafael Santos, and Daniel Edelman.
After going scoreless in the first 45 minutes, St. Louis opened up the scoring in the 60th minute.
Simon Becher delivered a short ball to Marcel Hartel, just outside the Charlotte box, and Hartel slid it past Charlotte’s goalkeeper, Kristijan Kahlina.

It only took 12 minutes for Charlotte to respond, however.
Midfielder Pep Biel was fed the ball inside the CITY SC box and sent a low drive far post, past a diving Roman Bürki.

Both sides continued to create chances during the final quarter of the match.
St. Louis nearly pulled ahead in the last few minutes of added time, but when the final whistle blew, the score was 1-1.
CITY’s next match is on March 1 against San Diego at Snapdragon Stadium. That match starts at 8:15 p.m.
