ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest)—St. Louis CITY SC’s U.S. Open Cup run ended Wednesday night with a 3-2 loss to Minnesota United FC in the Round of 16.

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead into the half after forward Kelvin Yeboah scored in the 10th minute.

Despite the early deficit, St. Louis stormed back in the second half. Marcel Hartel and João Klauss scored within 10 minutes of each other to give CITY a 2-1 advantage.

St. Louis dominated most of the final 45 minutes, until the very end.

At minute 85, former CITY SC wingback Anthony Markanich scored on a counterattack to put the score level at 2-2. And only three minutes later, Markanich delivered the final blow.

It was his first career brace, and it came against his former club.

CITY SC finished with 56 percent possession and 12 shots.

In its last seven matches, St. Louis CITY SC has now allowed 13 goals after the 60-minute mark.

The club will now look towards its next match in MLS play against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, May 24.
