ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The United Football League announced St. Louis Battlehawks linebacker Pita Taumoepenu has been named the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year.
Taumoepenu was a huge asset to the Battlehawks’ defense, which allowed only 16.3 points per game. The former Denver Bronco led the league with 7.5 sacks, setting a new franchise record.
Taumoepenu finished the season with 26 total tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and was one of the two players to force three fumbles this season. He was also recognized as a 2025 All-UFL performer, and UFL Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Memphis Showboats.
In 2023, Taumoepenu was a dominant force playing for the Vegas Vipers.
