ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The United States Men’s National Team will be in St. Louis tonight to face Guatemala in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinal.
The USMNT is coming off a 4-3 win in penalties against Costa Rica in the quarterfinals on Sunday. U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese made three saves in the shootout, and forward Damion Downs scored the final kick to secure the win.

Guatemala was the third-lowest-ranked FIFA team when the tournament began. Now, it is in the semifinals for the first time since 1996.
Los Chapines are also coming off a penalty shootout win, stunning Canada on Sunday after beating Jamaica and Guadeloupe in group play.

The U.S. and Guatemala have faced each other 27 times in history, with the USMNT holding a winning record of 16-5-6. The last time they met in this tournament, the U.S. defeated Guatemala 1-0 in the 2007 group stage.

The U.S. has had an abundance of success in this tournament. It has reached the semifinal in 17 of the 18 Gold Cups and has reached the final 12 times. In total, the USMNT has won the competition seven times.
