ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC will host Minnesota United FC, looking to bounce back from a shutout loss last week.

Despite controlling 63 percent possession, CITY was unable to end its road match slump. Dallas took an early lead in the first half, and then put the final two nails in the coffin in the final 10 minutes of regular time.

St. Louis is now 11 points out of a playoff spot, with 11 matches remaining this season. The club must win at least five of these remaining matches to have ‘a chance’ at making the playoffs. To basically guarantee a spot, nine of the remaining matches must result in three points.
Up next, St. Louis CITY will host a club it has been unable to overcome for nearly two years straight.

The Loons
Minnesota United FC has all but secured a spot in the 2025 MLS playoffs.
Unlike St. Louis’s last opponent, the Loons have proven to be a tough team to beat. And St. Louis knows this all too well. CITY has lost five of its all-time six matchups against MIN, and hasn’t beaten them since September 2023.

MNUFC has won three of its last five regular-season matches. A home atmosphere won’t serve as a safety net for St. Louis, as Minnesota averages 1.67 points per game on the road. Nearly half of the club’s 41 total points have been taken from road matches.
It might seem obvious, but scoring in both halves has proven effective against this team, as they defend the lead 62 percent of the time during road matches. So, making them chase would put them in an uncomfortable, unfamiliar position.

And if scoring early doesn’t pan out, there will still be other opportunities to swing the match momentum. The Loons allow a vast majority of their conceded goals in the second half of road matches. And CITY SC has recently proven it knows how to find the back of the net after the first 45.

To make this meeting even more interesting, St. Louis will enter the match after recently acquiring former MNUFC players Sang-bin Jeong and Devin Padelford. And Interim Manager David Critchley has not ruled out the possibility of either appearing on Saturday.
Kick-off is set for Saturday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Energizer Park.
