ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Wednesday that they’ve traded left-handed pitcher Steven Matz to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league first basemen Blaze Jordan.
Matz pitched in 84 games over four seasons for the Cardinals and was 15-14 with a 4.24 ERA over 252.1 innings pitched. In 2025, the 34-year-old has played in 32 games for the Cards and holds a 5-2 record with a 3.44 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 55 innings.
Blaze Jordan, out of Southaven, Miss., was the Red Sox third round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Jordan is batting .308 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI this season. The 6-foot, 220 lb., right-handed hitter leads all full-season Red Sox minor leaguers in batting, hits, and total bases.
He started the year in Double-A Portland and was promoted to Triple-A on June 3 after being named Eastern League Player of the Month for May.
Jordan is currently ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the Red Sox organization by Baseball America.
