GAME RECAP

Cardinal Ritter wasted no time pulling ahead after returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. CBC was able to prevent a 2-point conversion, leaving the score 6-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Cadets prevented Cardinal Ritter from adding to their lead with a goalline stop midway through the first quarter.

Soon after, CBC’s Courtney Rivers scored on a short pass near midfield to give the Cadets a 7-6 advantage to finish the quarter.

Neither team was very successful in the second quarter.

But in the final few minutes, CBC quarterback Nick McClellan drove the offense down the field and scored a rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 14-6 before the break.

The Cadets started with the ball in the second half, and caught fire early.

After driving down the field, Rivers scored his second touchdown of the game off a short run to give CBC a 21-6 lead.

The following drive, Cardinal Ritter fumbled. Cadets linebacker Cole Rivers scooped up the ball and ran into the endzone for a 28-6 advantage with around nine minutes left in the quarter.

Cardinal Ritter eventually responded with a long run from deep in their territory, which resulted in a touchdown. But once again, the Cadets’ defense stopped its opponent from securing a 2-point conversion, keeping the score 28-12 with three minutes left until the final quarter.

CBC started with the ball deep in their own half in the fourth quarter.

The Cadets drove almost the length of the field and scored once again. McClellan pushed his way into the endzone on a short run from inside the Lions’ 10-yard line. CBC failed to convert the extra point, but held a 34-12 lead with just under six minutes remaining.

That lead would continue until the final whistle, and the Cadets improved to 2-0 on the year with a lopsided victory in their home opener.
