But De Smet quickly answered back. The Spartans were able to close the gap once again with a quick drive down the field, scoring a touchdown in three plays.
CBC didn’t take its foot off the gas, however, as Nick McClellan connected with Vic Williams on a pass to the flat, which Williams took nearly 70 yards to the endzone.
The back-and-forth battle continued as De Smet then scored another touchdown with just under two minutes left in the quarter. The Spartans added to their score with a two-point conversion.
Going into the final quarter, the Cadets led 45-29. There were four touchdowns scored in the final five minutes of the third quarter.
CBC started the fourth with the ball near the middle of the field. After taking four minutes off the clock, the Cadets added to their lead with a field goal by Corde Gage.
But, once again, De Smet didn’t waste any time responding. After conceding the field goal, the Spartans took their kickoff return nearly 95 yards for a touchdown, making it 48-36.
With less than six minutes left in the game, Courtney Rivers gave CBC some more insurance, scoring his second touchdown of the game.
With De Smet running out of time and needing a score, the CBC defense came up with a fourth-down stop at their own goal line to put the final nail in the coffin.
The Cadets won 55-36 and will now face the winner of the other semifinal game between SLUH and Lafayette on Friday, November 14.
