ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals are trading third baseman Nolan Arenado to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The trade was announced on Tuesday.
Arenado spent four seasons with the Cardinals. He finished third in the National League MVP voting in 2022 and helped the Cardinals win an N.L. Central Division title.
The eight-time MLB All-Star batted .237, with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs in his most recent season with St. Louis.
“We are grateful for Nolan’s five years as a Cardinal, on and off the field -- for his drive, his competitiveness, and for all of the memories he gave us,” stated Cardinals President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom. “We wish Nolan and his family the very best as he continues with the next chapter of his great career.”

In exchange, the Cardinals will receive minor league right-handed pitcher Jack Martinez.
Martinez, 22, was the Diamondbacks’ eighth round selection in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Arizona State University.
He was 6-4 with a 5.94 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 15 starts for the Sun Devils in 2025.
Over a collegiate career that also included stints with Trinity University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Martinez was a combined 20-8 with a 4.76 ERA in 75 career games.
He will be making his professional debut with the Cardinals.
