ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Tuesday that they have signed free-agent right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal for 2026.
Stanek’s near-decade-long career in MLB has included stints with Tampa Bay, Miami, Houston, Seattle and the New York Mets.
The 34-year-old St. Louis-native has posted a 21-23 career record with a 3.85 ERA, 14 saves and 531 strikeouts in 458.1 IP.
He is ranked 15th among all MLB pitchers in career games pitched, with 466 since debuting in 2017.
Last year, Stanek appeared in 65 games for the Mets, where he compiled a 4-6 record with 3 saves, 11 holds and a 5.30 ERA.

He also ranked in the 96th percentile among Major League pitchers with an average fastball velocity of 98.5 MPH in 2025.
As far as playoff experience, Stanek has appeared in 30 career postseason games, going 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA, and was a member of the 2022 World Series Champion Houston Astros.
The Cardinals’ one-year deal with Stanek also includes a club option for 2027.
The financial terms of the signing were not disclosed.
