ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced that they have signed Manager Oli Marmol to a two-year contract extension through the 2028 season, with a club option for the 2029 season.

The 39-year-old has been St. Louis’s manager for the past four seasons and has racked up a 325-323 record during that time.

“As I’ve gotten to know Oli, I’ve seen someone who cares about this organization and knows what has made the Cardinals special over time – and who understands that for us to get where we need to go, we must compete relentlessly to set new standards in everything that we do,” stated Cardinals President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom. “He is invested in the progress of our young core and is unafraid to challenge himself and to help those around him grow. I am energized to continue working with him towards the on-field success that we expect and that our fans deserve.”

Marmol is currently the third longest tenured manager in the National League with the same team behind only the Dodgers Dave Roberts and the Diamondbacks Torey Lovullo.

He has been a member of the Cardinals franchise since 2007, first as a player, and then as a coach and manager at the minor league level.

In 2022, he led the team to a National League Central title with a 93-win season. It was the team’s first division title since 2019, and at age 36, Marmol became the youngest manager to lead his team to the postseason since 1948.

The Cardinals begin their fifth season with Marmol on Thursday, March 26, at 3:15 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Rays.
