ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC fell 2-0 to San Diego FC Sunday night for its first loss of the 2026 season.
San Diego needed only three minutes to take the lead. With CITY SC pulled heavily into its opponent’s half, San Diego was able to counterattack with numbers and find No. 10 Anders Dreyer for a volley past a diving Roman Bürki.

St. Louis slowly grew into the match as the half continued, but after 45 minutes, San Diego still held a 1-0 lead.
Dreyer started the second half as hot as he started the first. In minute 54, he fed forward Marcus Ingvartsen a short, no-look pass into the St. Louis box, resulting in San Diego taking a 2-0 lead.

The home side controlled play for the remainder of the match, and St. Louis ended its short road trip with its first loss of the 2026 season.

San Diego controlled 61 percent of the possession throughout the match, and outshot St. Louis 10 to 6.
