ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Maryville University has launched an NCAA Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey program.
“This is a historic moment for our university,” said Dr. Dan Shipp, President of Maryville University. “Launching NCAA Division I men’s hockey reflects our continued commitment to academic and athletic excellence, and our belief in creating elite-level competitive opportunities for student-athletes who want to achieve at the highest level – right here in St. Louis. Get ready D1 hockey, here come the Saints!”
The university’s existing American Collegiate Hockey Association club hockey programs will not change.
The Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey team’s inaugural season will be during the 2027/28 academic year under John Hogan, who has been named Assistant Athletic Director of Hockey and NCAA Division 1 Head Coach.
