KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs made a blockbuster trade Wednesday morning, dealing star cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a series of draft picks.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are trading McDuffie to the Rams in exchange for the 29th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, a fifth and sixth-round pick in this year’s draft and a third-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

The trade comes after McDuffie’s fourth season with the Chiefs. During his four seasons in Kansas City, the former first-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft helped the Chiefs go to three Super Bowls and win two of them.

McDuffie was named an AP All-Pro during a 2023 season in which the Chiefs defense was one of the best units in the National Football League.

The trade is also a homecoming for McDuffie, who was born and raised in Orange County, California.

The trade also follows a pattern of moves for the Chiefs and Rams. For Kansas City, it’s the second time in the last three seasons that the team has traded a star cornerback rather than given them a contract extension. Two seasons ago, Kansas City traded L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans instead of giving him a contract extension.

For Los Angeles, it’s another star player acquired in lieu of making a first-round pick, with the Rams previously acquiring quarterback Matthew Stafford and cornerback Jalen Ramsey in similar fashion.

McDuffie’s final play for the Chiefs wound up being a play in which he injured his knee against the Houston Texans in a December game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs now hold the ninth and 29th overall selections in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which will be held April 23-25, 2026.
