Blues trade captain Brayden Schenn to Islanders ahead of deadline

Blues to get a 1st and 3rd round pick back, plus F Johnathan Drouin and G Marcus Gidlof

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The St. Louis Blues traded captain Brayden Schenn to the New York Islanders Friday ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

Schenn has been with the franchise since the 2017-18 season. Schenn came to the Blues via a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Blues are getting back a 1st and 3rd round pick for Schenn. The team is also getting forward Johnathan Drouin as part of the package, and 20-year-old goaltender Marcus Gidlof.

Schenn was a key piece in the Blues’ turnaround during the 2018-19 season, ending in a Stanley Cup Championship, the first in the franchise’s history. Schenn had 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in the playoffs, including a goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins.

Schenn became the 24th captain in the team’s history, replacing Ryan O’Reilly in 2023.

Coming to St. Louis is Drouin, who has 21 points in 55 games played for the Islanders this season. St. Louis will be his fifth team, with previous stops in Tampa Bay, Montreal and Colorado, as well as on Long Island.

Gidlof was a 5th-round draft pick in 2024, playing this year professionally in Sweden.
