ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - It’s championship season in high school sports with state titles on the line. In lacrosse, MICDS and Chaminade met in the championship game which left one local family with an impossible choice of who to cheer for.
“It’s amazing. it’s a father’s dream it really is,” said David Williams.
It’s rare that someone can cheer for both teams in a state championship game, but for David Williams, that’s his reality.
“I sat dead middle,” Williams said. “I didn’t sit on one side or the other, I sat dead middle. We have the shirt that represents both of us.”
David’s son, Ben, is a senior at MICDS.

“All of my club guys went to MICDS and I felt like if I wanted to have a fun and successful high school experience, that would be the place for me. It ended up being the right pick,” MICDS senior lacrosse player Ben Williams said.
Ben’s younger brother, Jake, is the starting goalie for Chaminade. As luck would have it, their seasons would end together, battling for a state title.
“It was rough, but it was all good,” David said. “I rooted for everyone and I had a great time, it was fun.“
“I can’t ask for anything more than that,” Chaminade sophomore lacrosse player Jake Williams said. “Our whole year we worked for this and I was hoping it was against him and it was. So awesome to be out here and play against him.”
Ben added, “I was thinking before the game ‘they are going to give us an issue & it’s because of him.’ It’s because he’s not going to let us score, he’s not going to let goals in easy.”

At the end of the day, there can be only one winner. It was Ben and the Rams that won the title; an accomplishment that wraps up turbulent high school career for the senior.
“What he’s been through, two ACL tears, a collar bone fracture his freshman year to come back and have this type of season is amazing. I’m so proud of him for persevering through everything that he’s went through,” David said.
Amid the triumph, it’s also bittersweet moment for older brother Ben. “I’ve had to work on blocking that out kind of and just thinking he’s another goalie,” he said. “When I saw him in the handshake line at the end of the game it kind of all hit and it was like he really wanted this and he worked for this and it’s tough to see that he couldn’t get it. While I’m happy that all my guys got it, it is tough to see that he couldn’t.”
