KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Chiefs’ top wide receiver has served his jail sentence stemming from a 2024 car crash.

Rashee Rice tested positive for THC and was taken into custody in mid-May for violating the terms of his probation. The terms of the probation were set as a result of his role in a six-car crash on Easter Sunday in March 2024.

The Kansas City Chiefs wideout was ordered to serve 30 days in jail, a sentence that had previously been issued to him on July 17, 2025, when he pled guilty to a trio of felony charges.

Rice missed the Chiefs’ OTAs and mandatory mini-camp this offseason. He is recovering from a knee injury, although court records show he was given permission to leave jail to receive treatment at Parkland Hospital during his sentence.

Rice was suspended six games to start the 2025 NFL season. It is not yet clear if he will face additional discipline for the failed drug test or his expected absence from the Chiefs’ minicamp. The team did not respond to a previous request for comment from CBS News Texas.

The SMU product was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has had trouble staying on the field due to a torn ACL in 2024 and a six-game suspension in 2025.

Rice missed the first six games of 2025 due to the suspension for his role in the six-car crash and finished the year with 53 receptions, 571 yards and 5 touchdowns, missing the final few games of the 2025 season due to a concussion.

This offseason, Rice was accused of domestic assault in a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend. The NFL investigated the claims and closed it, determining that Rice would not be suspended for a second time.
