KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Dramatic matches in Atlanta and Vancouver have set the stage for Saturday’s sixth and final FIFA World Cup game in Kansas City.
A pair of thrilling victories for defending champion Argentina and Switzerland set up this weekend’s quarterfinal showdown at Kansas City Stadium.
For the second time this tournament, Argentina will make the short trek from its base camp in Kansas City to Arrowhead Stadium for a match. The 2022 World Cup champions faced a 2-0 deficit in the late stages of their Round of 16 matchup with Egypt on Tuesday afternoon before rallying with a fury to score three goals in 13 minutes to win in regulation.
In doing so, they became the first team in World Cup history to trail by multiple goals in the 75th minute or later and win the game in regulation.
That two-goal deficit was erased in part thanks to the heroics of superstar Lionel Messi, who scored his tournament-leading eighth goal of the 2026 World Cup to tie the game in the 83rd minute.

Hours later in Vancouver, Colombia and Switzerland battled for 90 scoreless minutes before heading to extra time to determine a winner.
Colombia, which won its Round of 32 game 1-0 over Ghana on Friday, July 3, in Kansas City, was attempting to return to the City of Fountains. They were unsuccessful in that endeavor, falling in penalty kicks to the Swiss late Tuesday afternoon.
Ruben Vargas made the game-winning penalty kick for Switzerland on Tuesday, advancing with the 4-3 penalty shootout win following the scoreless draw through the game’s first 120 minutes.
It’s the first time Switzerland has reached the quarterfinals of a World Cup since they hosted the tournament in 1954.
Saturday’s game in Kansas City will kick off at 8 p.m. CT.
