ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced they have selected the contract of Memphis Redbirds RHP Luis Gastelum.
The 24-year-old was an international free-agent signing out of Mexico in April 2023.
He posted a 7-1 record with a 2.27 ERA, three saves, and 49 strikeouts in 36 appearances for the Redbirds
Gastelum has not been scored on in his last 18 appearances, which is tied for the longest minor league scoreless streak this season.
He will be the 7th Cardinals player to make his Major League debut this season, and will wear uniform No. 72 when he does.
