ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs held their first full team practice of training camp on Wednesday without offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in attendance.
Bieniemy, who returned to Kansas City as the offensive coordinator following three seasons elsewhere, is back in Virginia with his family as his wife, Mia, recovers from a shooting.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers responded to the 20000 block of Northpark Drive on Sunday evening for an incident. There, Mia suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.
On Wednesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided a positive update on Mia’s injuries.

“She’s doing great. She’s doing better from where she was,” Reid said following the first full-team practice of training camp. “Out of the ICU unit and making progress, so we’re happy about that.”

Reid said Eric Bieniemy remains away from the team as his wife recovers.
“EB’s still with her, and that part is important that that takes place,” Reid said. “Eric’s a big part of this. Right now, it’s important he takes care of business... Eric will be back soon enough.”
Eric Bieniemy’s son, 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested on suspicion of:
- malicious wounding
- use of a firearm in commission of a felony
- discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling
Elijah was being held at the Loudoun County Detention Center without bond.
