ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - Outfielder Joshua Baez is heading to the major leagues.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that they are promoting Baez from Triple-A Memphis. The announcement comes a day after Baez hit his International league-leading 34th home run of the season.
In Memphis, the slugger is batting .256 with 34 home runs and 90 RBIs.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters in Chicago on Friday that Baez will be in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Baez is rated the #3 prospect in the Cardinals system behind Liam Doyle and Raniel Rodriguez.
