CITY SC trades midfielder Eduard Löwen to San Jose

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC announced Wednesday that it has traded midfielder Eduard Löwen to the San Jose Earthquakes.

In exchange, CITY SC will receive $425,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM), with the potential for an additional $500,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met.

“Edu has meant a lot to this club and to the people of St. Louis,” said Sporting Director Corey Wray. “He was there from the beginning and helped create so many important moments in our history, especially in the team’s historic inaugural season but also in every season since. Edu is beloved by everyone around the club and has earned the respect of our supporters and so many others around the world through his character, strength and resilience. Decisions like this are never easy, but we are incredibly grateful for everything Edu has given to this club and for the player and person he has shown himself to be throughout his time in St. Louis.

Reports of the deal were first made on Saturday, August 22. St. Louis CITY SC has now officially announced the trade.

Löwen has made 103 appearances across all competitions for St. Louis, recording 23 goals and 30 assists. He ranks first in club history in regular-season goal contributions (47 goal contributions in the regular season; 20 goals and 27 assists) and assists (27).

So far this season, he has scored three goals and provided three assists in 13 appearances.

CITY SC will play it’s next match this Saturday, August 30, at home against FC Dallas.
