KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is already one of the greatest to play his position in National Football League history.

On Sunday in Miami, he surpassed another legend on an NFL leaderboard.

Late in the fourth quarter, Mahomes put the final touches on Kansas City’s 24-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins with an 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce.

The touchdown pass -- his second of the day -- was Mahomes’ 274th of his career in the regular season. The score for Mahomes surpassed former San Francisco 49ers and Chiefs legend Joe Montana for 20th in NFL history.

“Obviously, we didn’t play to our standard that we would hold for ourselves,” Mahomes told reporters after the win in which he completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. “But I thought we found a way to come together at the end of the game.”

Mahomes’ 274th touchdown pass of his career was the seventh of his 2026 season. This year is Mahomes’ ninth season as the Chiefs starting quarterback, and 10th in the NFL.

Montana played his final two seasons with the Chiefs, completing a 15-year career with his 273 touchdown passes.

Next week, Mahomes and the Chiefs play the Las Vegas Raiders in a battle of 3-0 teams. He’ll have another chance to move up the all-time leaderboard in that game as well, entering the week one touchdown pass behind Vinny Testaverde for 19th.
