ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - Former Mizzou linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been named a 2026 Southeastern Conference Football Legend, the conference announced Thursday.

Weatherspoon played for the Tigers from 2006-09. By the time his collegiate career ended, he was a three-year starter, team captain, two-time All-American and the only three-time first-team all-conference defensive player in Mizzou history.

He totaled 413 tackles, which currently ranks third in program history, along with 43.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

Weatherspoon went on to play seven NFL seasons with the Falcons and Arizona Cardinals and reached Super Bowl LI with Atlanta. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.

The 2026 SEC Football Legends will be honored during the SEC Football “Weekend of Champions” Dec. 4-5 in Atlanta. The annual SEC Legends Celebration presented by T-Mobile will take place Friday, Dec. 4, at the College Football Hall of Fame, followed by recognition of the class prior to the SEC Football Championship Game Saturday, Dec. 5, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
