KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs is getting closer to his first return to Arrowhead Stadium since leaving the franchise.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Chargers released an updated injury report that included a positive injury outlook for wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The 32-year-old wide receiver who won back-to-back Super Bowls with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023 was upgraded from a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice to a full participant Thursday, the Chargers said.

Valdes-Scantling is dealing with a rib injury.

This season, he has 2 receptions for 22 yards in three games with the Chargers. He signed with Los Angeles’ practice squad in September after spending the preseason with the Dallas Cowboys and being released Aug. 30.

Valdes-Scantling’s role in Los Angeles has increased in recent weeks as the Chargers have dealt with injuries to multiple wide receivers, including Ladd McConkey (foot), Quentin Johnston (chest) and Tre’ Harris (hamstring).

Valdes-Scantling signed with the Chiefs as a free agent ahead of the 2022 season, leaving Green Bay to come to Kansas City. After leaving the Chiefs following the 2023 season, Valdes-Scantling has bounced around the league. He’s spent time on the active roster during the regular season in Buffalo, New Orleans, San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.

During his time with the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling had 63 receptions for 1,002 yards and 3 touchdowns in the regular season. In the playoffs, he had several key moments, including touchdowns in the 2022 AFC Championship Game and 2023 Super Bowl, as well as the game-sealing catch in the AFC Championship Game in Baltimore in 2023 as well.

Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Chargers kicks off at 3:25 p.m. CT and can be watched live on KCTV5 in Kansas City and the surrounding area. It will be the first time Valdes-Scantling has gone up against the Chiefs since leaving the organization.
