ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - This week, St. Louis CITY SC will be playing in arguably the biggest match in its history!
CITY SC will be facing the Columbus Crew in its first-ever U.S. Open Cup Final.
A win would give the City of St. Louis its ninth Open Cup trophy, with the most recent coming from the St. Louis Busch Seniors in 1988.
After defeating Colorado Rapids 3-0 in the Semifinal in September, St. Louis will now have the opportunity to lay claim to its first trophy as one of the newer clubs in MLS.
This club is coming off a 3-2 loss to Minnesota United after breaking the MLS record for consecutive unbeaten matches across all competitions the previous week.

They are 2nd in the Western Conference with 51 points, and have clinched a spot in the MLS Playoffs.
CITY and ‘the Crew’ have only met twice. Once was in 2023 during the Leagues Cup, and the other was in 2025 in MLS play. Both resulted in 2-1 losses for St. Louis.
Columbus is currently 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with 35 points and a 10-15-5 record. In their last 10 matches across all competitions, the Crew have earned six wins and suffered four losses.
The winner of the U.S. Open Cup will receive $600,000 and a berth in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The runner-up receives $250,000.
The match kicks off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21.
