ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC won its first-ever trophy Wednesday night, defeating Columbus Crew 5-3 on penalties in the 2026 U.S. Open Cup Final!
The first half of the Final was dominated entirely by Columbus. The Crew finished the first 45 minutes with 11 total shots, including one that hit the post.
CITY SC was only able to record one shot, spending most of its time chasing around yellow shirts.
Columbus picked up right where they left off in the second half with strong attacking play.
After holding steady for most of the half, St. Louis’s captain, Roman Bürki, took a knee to his head while making a save. He was carted off the field and taken to the hospital.

Despite the onslaught of attacks by the Crew, 90 minutes were not enough to separate the two sides, and extra time was required.
Each team exchanged opportunities through the extra 30 minutes. But after going scoreless once again, the 2026 U.S. Open Cup Final went to a penalty shootout.
