ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired 23-year-old left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rivera from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for teenage minor league right-hander Juan Carlos García.

Rivera made his Major League debut with Boston in April 2026, pitching 10 innings across four appearances (three starts).

He averages 11 strikeouts per nine innings across his minor league career—along with dominant splits against lefties, holding opposing left-handed hitters to a .067 average in the majors and never allowing a home run to a left-handed batter in 355 minor league matchups.

Rivera posted a 7-2 record with a 2.59 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 55.2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A in 2026.

In return, Boston receives the 18-year-old García, who went 6-6 with a 3.87 ERA over two seasons in the Dominican Summer League.
